With an English & Education degree in hand, Joyce Clement promptly sought work in private industry and has remained there for last 35 years, happily exercising her analytical brain. She has, however, always retained her deep love of words, nature, & poetry, and has continued writing for most of her adult life. In 2005 she turned her focus to haiku. Since that time her poems have appeared regularly in a variety of on-line and print journals.
In 2011 she was a featured poet in A New Resonance 7: Emerging Voices in English-Language Haiku (Red Moon Press), and a Haiku Circle guest reader. 2011 also saw the publication of her first book of haiku, Beyond My View, which subsequently received a Haiku Society of America's Merit Book Award. In 2013, she was one of five contributor's in Lonely Together, haiku by Joyce Clement, Stanford M. Forrester, Peter Newton, vincent tripi, & Fran Witham. In 2018, her haiku sequence Birds Punctuate Days was included in Simon and Schuster's The Best American Poetry 2018. Joyce also recently served as co-editor of Frogpond, the journal of The Haiku Society of America. Born and raised in Upstate NY, Joyce now resides in central Connecticut. |
